Learning activities should be engaging, challenging, and provide opportunities for students to practice skills in authentic ways-- helping students connect their learning to the real world and develop real-life habits of mind.

Activity:  Teachers select video to view about sample centers in different classrooms. Then use planning template to draft design for initial centers, thinking about instructional purpose, grouping, required text(s), learner outcome(s)

  • Center 1:  Work time as play (7:27)
  • Center 2: Build literacy through story telling (3:31) 
  • Center 3:  Set up observation station in third grade (6:10)
