Group with intention

« Back to the Main Inquiry Cycle

Groupings for centers vary according to instructional purpose and needs of the students. Students can work independently, with a partner, in interest-based, mixed-ability, or leveled groups. In all cases, grouping decisions must be intentional, based on the nature and purpose of the task.

Activity:  Start by viewing two models for grouping

Then identify small groups

  • first, based on differentiated small group instruction with students in same skill levels
  • next, in groups based on grouping according to interest-based learning groups

Optional: Read What are the rest of the students doing?
