Pre-Session 1: What are the Essential Practices in Early Childhood Classrooms?

« Back to the Main Inquiry Cycle

Before we begin to investigate unique components of early learning and instruction, we want to consider how research describes the essential characteristics of high-quality early childhood programs.

First, read the article Essential Practices at PK. Depending on time available, you might ask participating educator to read the article in advance of convening. Consider using a text rendering protocol, as a way to discuss the key ideas.

Conclude your time together by asking the teachers to identify one key idea from the article that represents a strength in what they already do and one idea they want to learn more about.
